Ampersand’s impact providing leadership advisory services is rooted in our skill at quickly developing rapport and trust with the individuals we interview. Our preference has always been (and remains) to do so in person. However, COVID-19 – as it has for so many of our clients – inspired us to think about how we can still be helpful in times of travel restrictions and social distancing. And we are encouraged.

In times of crisis, it is even more important to get people decisions right. In the past three weeks, we have conducted a number of virtual executive and organizational assessments using video technology – some during diligence, some for development, and some to understand team effectiveness. While virtual is certainly not a perfect substitute for in-person, the fidelity has been more than satisfactory. We have been able to continue to help our clients make better people decisions, and that is what we live for. In 2017, the New York Times declared that “a typical job interview is little more than a social call with some predictable choreography.” Our goal is to ensure that our clients have much, much better data than just “a social call,” and we are thrilled that we can continue to do so virtually.

We were struck by Queen Elizabeth II’s words in her heartfelt speech on Monday (April 5th), where she closed by saying “…while we may have more still to endure, better days will return…We will meet again.” We look forward to meeting you and the candidates you send our way in person again – but until then, know that we will continue to serve you – virtually — with excellence.
